“The work of Sjimmie Veenhuis has developed from painting into installations. In the original conception of the medium, a painting functions as a ‘window’ through which the illusion of an underlying reality takes place. An illusion that actually consists of nothing more than just paint. With an interest in these types of forms of visual transformation, Sjimmie looks for materials that, from their original context, are not inclined to be read differently than what they actually are, unlike paint. With this he tries to initiate a similar transformation, by looking for a form in which the material transforms into a spatial experience.

As in the origins of painting, he tries to show an image that plays with the illusion of spaciousness through the properties of the to use material in such a way that it does not initially immediately communicate what it actually is. The most important means he uses for this are repetition, size ratios and other features that reduce recognition of the material used and serve the purpose of finding a spatial illusion.” [1]
